1989 Seiko SQ Rare 'Sample' Variant Golden Dial Two Tone Men's Wrist-Watch

This 1989 Seiko SQ REF: 5Y23-8A69 is a peculiar watch, not because of the style of the watch nor because of the movement, but rather because of a simple word ‘Sample’. 

This 1989 Seiko was not born to be worn but rather to be an exhibition watch to be shown to potential customers. These models did not receive a movement to prevent potential theft. Eventually as the model was discontinued this sample found its way to a storage room to be forgotten about for decades. Three decades later this watch would be picked up by a watchmaker and allowed to be given a proper life.

This watch is now powered by a sourced Seiko 5Y23 movement which corresponds to the movement that this watch model should have had. This movement offers great accuracy, hacking for precise time-setting and a day-date with quick-set.

Housing this watch is a near new condition two tone steel case that sits comfortably on the wrist. On the caseback there sits the engraved ‘Sample’ marking distinguishing this watch from others. 

Size: 35.5mm diameter (37mm with crown), 8mm height, 20mm lug width, bracelet size of 8 ¼”.

Condition: In fantastic condition though the crown has lost its gold color and the buckle has a bit of wear.
